Eric Roberts plays Bill Sagat, doing a valiant but failing job advising his misguided daughter in IT'S NOT A DATE. One of Hollywood's edgier, more intriguing characters, Eric Roberts started life in Biloxi, Mississippi, but grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, beginning his acting career at age 5 in a local theater company founded by his late father, Walter Roberts. He went on to study drama at age 17 in London at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, returning to continue his studies at the American Academy in New York and making his NY stage debut in Rebel Women in 1976 at age 20, opposite Shirley Knight and Glenn Close. Then came stints on daytime soaps until his career shifted fast forward with his Golden Globe nominated role in King of the Gypsies alongside a roster of stars including Judd Hirsch, Susan Sarandon, Shelly Winters and Sterling Hayden. He co-starred with Sissy Spacek in Raggedy Man; alongside Mariel Hemingway in Star 80; opposite Mickey Rourke in The Pope of Greenwich Village; and topped off his prolific period with an Academy Award nomination as a young prison escapee hiding out with Jon Voight aboard a Runaway Train. He is an under-appreciated, no-holds-barred actor who brings an edgy excitement to every character he plays and enhances the performances of his co-stars, which is why he has been chosen to play opposite Richard Gere in Final Analysis and Christian Bale in The Dark Knight.
